Summary Statement

With funding from CPWR the Center for Construction Research and Training, Dr. Melissa Perry and her colleagues at George Washington University developed a tool to assess fall hazards and fall-prevention practices among five groups of skilled trade workers and applied the tool during construction of a new building at the Milken Institute on campus. With the help of the general contractor, Whiting Turner, Dr. Perry and several of her students conducted the research and found that ironworkers and carpenters spend considerable time in situations that were particularly risky.
