CPWR - The Center for Construction Research and Training

Summary Statement

This CPWR course was revised to reflect the major changes to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard that became effective May 25, 2012. These changes align the U.S. with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). OSHA indicates it will provide "a common and coherent approach to classifying chemicals and communicating hazard information on labels and safety data sheets." CPWR developed this course specifically for the construction trades, including example Safety Data Sheets for products used by five different trades. There is a PowerPoint and an student manual that accompanies this instructor manual. A Spanish version of the course is available, as well. Under the OSHA Hazcom standard, employers must train workers on the new label elements and safety data sheet (SDS) format by December 1, 2013.
