Bad Practice
This image shows an example of an unsafe work practice.
Summary Statement
No respiratory protection. Use water to reduce dust levels. There are water spray attachments that can be used with jackhammers and other silica disturbing tools to reduce workers exposure levels. Worker should be using hearing protection.
Operating this type of pneumatic hammer for this task requires the operator to assume an awkward posture. Bending at the waist for long periods of time can lead to back pain. Using a taller tool with a longer reach may be helpful. Using anti vibration gloves can absorb
vibration. Warming up and stretching before beginning work can be helpful, as well as mini-breaks (a few seconds)during the day to stretch and relax can help reduce fatigue.
