Summary Statement
Hand screeding requires workers to assume an awkward posture (bending) and use a significant amount of force to level freshly poured concrete. The forces required to perform this job place a major stress on hands wrists and back. The workers in this photo are sharing the work load.
There are mechanical assists that can be used in some instances.
All of the workers are using gloves to protect their hands from dermal exposure. Short sleeve shirts do not provide any protection for arms. Wash up facilities should be present so that workers can immediately clean off any wet cement and before eating, drinking, going to the toilet and before changing into clean clothes at the end of the day.
