Because alkali burns are not initially painful, workers can suffer concrete burns that destroy muscle tissue and can even necessitate amputation (OH&S Magazine, January, 2007) Wash up facilities should be available for workers to clean off wet cement immediately and before eating, drinking, going to the toilet. and prior to changing clothes before leaving the work site.
