Asphalt fume has been associated with irritation of the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath as well as pulmonary function changes. Reduce worker exposure levels by introducing effective control measures such as, using paving machines equipped with local exhaust ventilation, using low temperature asphalt, preventing skin exposure, improved work practices and through the use of respiratory protection.
